Niagara University played a great part in building my confidence as a teacher and helping me understand the type of educator I want to become, the teacher I strive to be.
Some of my fondest teaching moments came directly out of my assigned placements during my time as a teacher candidate of Niagara University. I clearly remember the feeling of knowing I helped a child learn how to spell. I remember the smile on his face as he said to me, “Thank you, Mr. Lau.” This is one of my most treasured teaching moments, something I will always take with me into every class I step into. And I have Niagara University to thank for that.
Since graduating from Niagara University in 2011, I have helped my students gain recognition for the numerous video productions they enter into various provincial, national and global competitions. The most recent accomplishment for my students was getting their environmental awareness public service announcements played on all Toronto Transit Commission screens for a full week. Having their work viewed by millions in the great city of Toronto was an incredible experience for all of them.
In 2012, I edited, directed and produced a video production that promotes the building of a highly skilled and flexible future workforce. My production won the school board, the Niagara Catholic District School Board, a global award and international recognition.
By 2013, I received the prestigious “Teacher of the Year” award, presented by the Business Education Council of Niagara and a trophy donated by Lincoln Fabrics LTD.
