Dr. Principe joined the faculty in fall 2008. She has a Ph.D. in economics from Emory University and a BBA in finance from the University of Notre Dame. Prior to entering academia, she was an auditor for General Electric Capital Corporation.
Focus of Teaching
- ECO 101 - Principles of Macroeconomics
- ECO 102 - Principles of Microeconomics
- MPH 663 - Management and Policy in Healthcare Organizations
- MPH 668 - Strategic Management in Healthcare Organizations.
Her primary research focus is on the impact of organizational status on hospital behavior, especially concerning the provision of community benefit services. She is currently analyzing variation in the level and type of community benefit services provided by Maryland nonprofit hospitals. Other research interests include the measure of patient risk aversion and preferences with regard to the treatment of illness.
Dr. Principe is one of the faculty advisors to Niagara’s Federal Reserve Challenge team. She has taken the team to competitions in Rochester and New York City. She is also a judge for the high school-level Federal Reserve Challenge competition.
Dr. Principe developed two of the courses for the newly-launched concentration in Healthcare Administration: MPH 663 Management and Policy in Healthcare Organizations and MPH 668 Strategic Management in Healthcare Organizations.
