Dr. Madsen is an Assistant Professor in the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Niagara University. She has taught courses in: Issues in Sport, Recreation Programming, Organizational Behavior in Sport Organizations, Sport Law, Sport Psychology, Management and Leadership in Sport, Sport Marketing, Policy and Governance in Sport, International Sport Management, and Sport Based Youth Development. Dr. Madsen’s research interests are mainly focused on gender issues in sport leadership as well as service learning and youth development through sport.
Before joining the faculty at Niagara in 2010, Dr. Madsen earned a PhD from the University of Connecticut in Sport Management and Women’s Studies. Her Master's degree in Higher Education Administration came from the University of Southern California. Dr. Madsen attended Castleton State College as an undergraduate where she was a two-sport athlete in basketball and softball.
Prior to pursuing a career in academia, Dr. Madsen spent 12 years working in college athletics as a head women’s basketball coach, assistant athletic director, senior woman administrator, physical education program coordinator, and residence hall director at several different universities on both the east and west coasts.
