Happy summer, everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the warmer weather as much as I am. Even though it is only July, I am already starting to prep for getting back to school (and I cannot wait to be back on The Ridge)!
Typically, my blogs have a rather structured post but today I would like to just talk in free form, especially since this post will be briefer than most.
Most of summer, so far, has been dedicated to working at a local hotel/restaurant as a waitress. I have learned quite a lot about people and have had some really interesting experiences along the way. The only downside of my job is that my shift starts at 5:30 a.m. - yes, before the sun rises. However, I get out at a set time and have the rest of the day to do whatever I choose, unlike those who work the evening shifts.
Aside from work, I have been golfing quite a bit to get ready for the fall season. I recently played in the Porter Cup, which is actually hosted at the Niagara Falls Country Club, NU"s home course. It was an incredible tournament and I was thrilled that a member of the men's golf team at NU caddied for me the last day.
As I mention golf, I cannot help but remember that the fall season will be the beginning of senior year for three of my teammates. I am already dreading their graduation from NU. I looked up to them and relied upon them so much my freshman year and cannot believe they will be leaving in less than a year! However, the fall semester is approaching and I hope all three of them have a memorable and accomplished final year at NU.
NUSGA, my most mentioned topic in all of my blogs, is also on my agenda for the summer. We are already starting plans for the upcoming year and I cannot wait to dive into our plans in depth when we return to The Ridge in August. Currently, we are just preparing for NSO (New Student Orientation) and getting acquainted with each other as a group. We each have our own tasks to complete this summer, and one of mine was to create a NUSGA Instagram. I am trying to push the hashtag "#nuphotos" for students to post photos around campus or with friends on The Ridge during orientation and throughout the year. So if you have any great photos, show us!
Finally, I would like to give a sort of shout out to my classmate and friend, Kelly, who is currently abroad in Peru! She has a Facebook blog that is open for you to "like" and follow her as she discovers Peru this summer! Even if you are not interested in Spanish/study abroad, I still recommend reading her posts. She has been touring the rain forest, Incan ruins, Lima, and some other famous places in Peru (all with beautiful pictures!).
