The Office of Violence Prevention & Education seeks to educate the campus community about domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking victimization. We host annual events to help raise awareness on these topics as well as offer a variety of trainings to our campus community to encourage healthy relationships, bystander intervention (Green Dot), and trauma-informed practices.

Surviving…Thriving: A Journey of Healing Through Art is an annual event on our campus that takes place in the Castellani Art Museum in the month of October in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The University partners with several community agencies who serve on the planning committee and provide collections of artwork created by survivors of domestic violence. This artwork is displayed for one evening for both campus and community members to view. In addition to raising awareness, all proceeds from the event are donated to Pinnacle Community Service’s Passage House and Domestic Violence Services.

Take Back the Night is an annual event that aims to end sexual, relationship, and domestic violence in all forms. Co-sponsored by the YWCA of the Niagara Frontier, the event begins in the Gallagher Center gym with resource tables, poster making, a brief program, and a student-organized march across campus. The event concludes with a candlelight vigil.

Take Back the Night events help all survivors reclaim their voice and empower those who have been victimized. Through events like this, as well as other outreach related to the awareness of domestic violence, we have the opportunity to work in partnership with community agencies to bring these issues to the forefront.
