Biography
Dr. Kristine Principe joined the faculty in the fall of 2008. She has a Ph.D. in Economics from Emory University and a BBA in Finance from the University of Notre Dame. Prior to entering academia, she was an auditor for General Electric Capital Corporation.
In her free time, she likes to exercise, cheer on Notre Dame and the Bills, and work on improving her golf game. She also enjoys traveling to Ohio and Texas to visit her grown children.

Current Research
Dr. Principe’s latest research interest focuses on areas that span faith and economic market activity. Her paper, “Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, and American Capitalism,” published in the Journal of Vincentian Social Action, has been downloaded over 500 times. She and Dr. Krieg Tidemann wrote “Three Ethical Criteria for Evaluating the Humanity of Economic Systems,” which was one of four papers to be presented at the American Enterprise Institute’s Initiative on Faith and Public Life January 2021 retreat and was subsequently published in the journal Faith and Economics. Most recently, she coauthored a paper with Dr. Tidemann and another NU colleague, Dr. Rima Bhattacharyay, “Transformative Reimagination: A Framework For A Vincentian College Of Business”, which won the Patrick Primeaux Best Paper Award at 28th International Vincentian Business Ethics Conference held in October 2022.
Current Involvement
Dr. Principe is the faculty advisor for Omicron Delta Epsilon, the international economics honor society. She is currently a member of the University Mission Committee, the Promotion and Tenure Committee, and on the organizing committee for the International Vincentian Business Ethics Conference. She is also the economics coordination for NUSTEP, NU’s accredited dual-enrollment initiative. In addition, she was a member of the 2020-2021 cohort for the Vincentian Mission Institute.
