Biography

Dr. Jamie Pamelia Pimlott was born in New Brunswick, Canada and moved to North Central Florida with her parents and sister at the age of nine. The first person in her family to go to university, in 1998 she earned her bachelor’s in history from the University of Florida (UF) magna cum laude, a master’s in History from UF in 2001 and a doctorate in Political Science from UF in 2007. In April 2006, while finishing her dissertation, Dr. Pimlott and her family moved to Washington, D.C. where she researched the role of money in state and federal politics at the Campaign Finance Institute (CFI). In the fall of 2007, Dr. Pimlott joined the Department of Political Science at Niagara University.

In 2010 Cambria Press published her first book, Women and the Democratic Party: The Evolution of EMILY’s List. She has authored and co-authored several works pertaining to campaign finance, women’s groups, and public opinion and is now a tenured Associate Professor of Political Science at Niagara. Dr. Pimlott’s three favorite courses to teach are Congressional Politics, Women & Politics, and Campaigns & Elections, but she enjoys teaching an array of courses including The Presidency, Public Policy, Interest Groups, Political Behavior/Public Opinion, Church and State, and Research Methods. Dr. Pimlott frequently serves as the faculty supervisor for political internships, placing students in internships at local, state, and federal government.

Dr. Pimlott finds the most rewarding part of her job to be mentoring students. She is proud of the fact that she remains in touch with many students who graduated over the last 15 years who now have successful careers in political consulting, elected office, business and the law. The current focus of her research is women running for and serving in elected office and Congress.

She is incredibly proud of her daughter currently earning a Ph.D. in Biology, her son-in-law who earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry and is working in industry, and a grandson (age one) who is just beginning to run instead of walk.
