Overview of Religious Studies Program

Religious studies program is structured as well as flexible to assure the program serves each student’s needs.

The Department of Religious Studies encompasses several different academic areas and approaches, including Theology, Ethics, Biblical Studies, and World Religion. Students can concentrate on the topics that interest them the most.

The Department empowers students to develop a richer understanding of the Catholic tradition and other Christian denominations, as well as the belief systems of the major world religions. Religious Studies courses typically offer a multidisciplinary approach, exploring the relationship between religion and art, music, literature, science, politics, disability, health care, and other aspects of contemporary society.

The study of religion fosters an awareness of the spiritual dimension of being human. It alerts students to the very real influence of religion throughout world history and its continuing role in contributing to human dignity in today’s secular society.

Students benefit from the extensive and diverse training of our faculty.  Truly  interdisciplinary, the course of study offers students a rigorous foundation in the field of Religious Studies including Theology, Ethics, World Religion, and the History of Christianity.  Specialized course topics include Medicine and Morality, Theology and Fantasy, Religion and Death, as well as a range of courses on Religion and culture by placing art, music, and literature at the center of the curriculum.
