Levesque Institute for Civic Engagement

Through its Levesque Institute, Niagara University is committed to the revitalization of the city of Niagara Falls and the Western New York region.

Community Outreach is one of the four pillars that comprise the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M. Institute for Civic Engagement at Niagara University. Within this pillar, we encourage students and faculty to reach beyond the classroom and assist the local community and its residents. Involvement is encouraged through areas of civic engagement, literacy, college and career readiness, and workforce development.

Institute on Disability Awareness

The Institute on Disability Awareness (IDA) offered by Niagara University is designed to give you the knowledge necessary to best serve and respond to individuals with disabilities. Created in cooperation with all the major first responder associations, councils and state offices in New York State, the curriculum is specifically customized for each first responder discipline, providing information that is current, relevant, and easily implemented.

Family Literacy Center

Niagara University’s College of Education’s Family Literacy Center provides a valuable community resource for diagnosing and remediating reading difficulties, while also facilitating literacy development. Families will benefit from state-of-the-art facilities and technology, the most current research based practices, and evidence based interventions. Services are provided by graduate students in the Advanced Literacy Program, under the direct supervision of university faculty, who are experts in the field of literacy instruction. All programs align with the New York State Common Core Standards and the International Reading Association (IRA) Standards.
