What we do

Welcome to the homepage for the Kiernan Recreation Center, Niagara University’s all-in-one recreation complex. The Kiernan Center offers more than 50 intramural, recreational & health/wellness programs for the Niagara University community. In addition, the center is the site for numerous community-based programs.  

Niagara University’s Kiernan Recreation Center is a facility where students, university employees and community members can go to workout, get in shape and have fun!

The mission of the Kiernan Recreation Center is to support Niagara University’s Vincentian mission by developing and maintaining healthy and life-enhancing recreational opportunities for the University community.

What the Kiernan Center offers

When an individual purchases a membership to the Kiernan Center, it will permit the member to use the Kiernan Center’s facilities during the center’s regular hours of operation in accordance with the facility’s rules and regulations. 

The Kiernan Center is a student recreational facility. The operations and management of the facility will focus upon the student population. At times, the use of the Kiernan Center may be restricted due to university scheduled events and activities. During school recess periods and summer school sessions, the hours of the Kiernan Center will be reduced.

  • 90`x 45` six lane swimming pool with one meter and three meter diving boards
  • Four basketball courts
  • Racquetball court
  • Free weight room
  • Fitness center
  • 2 dance / multi-purpose studios
  • Spinning Studio
  • Dry sauna in each locker room
  • Outdoor sport fields
  • Turf athletic field
  • Two outdoor basketball courts
  • Free equipment rental

Pool Hours

Only lap swimming is permitted and use of the diving boards will not be allowed during open swim. While school is in session pool hours will be as follows:

  • Mondays: 11:15am-12:30pm & 6:30-9pm
  • Tuesdays: 6:30-9pm
  • Wednesdays: 11:15am-12:30pm & 6:30-9pm
  • Thursdays: 6:30-9pm
  • Fridays: 11:15am-12:30pm & 6:30-9pm
  • Sundays: 3-5pm

During the summer and recess periods, these times are subject to change.

Family Hours

Immediate family may be admitted in the Kiernan Center during family hours. They must, however, be accompanied by the individual who possesses a membership and must register at the front desk when entering the facility. Children under the age of 16 will be restricted from some areas and are required to be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Family Hours are the following:

  • Late-August-mid-May – Sundays, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • Mid-May-late-August and during recess breaks – Fridays: All Day

There is a limit of four family members that are permitted to be signed in during family hours.
