Dr. Caitlin E. Riegel

Biography

Dr. Caitlin E. Riegel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education at Niagara University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education with a concentration in adolescent mathematics, as well as a Master of Science Degree in Special Education. She earned her doctorate in Leadership and Policy, where she focused on developing an instrument to measure how often teacher candidates’ model and apply the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards in teacher preparation programs.

Dr. Riegel is the recipient of the International Society of Educational Planning (ISEP) Glen Earthman Outstanding Dissertation Award in 2020 and the Journal of Research in Technology in Education Reviewer of the Year in 2023. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Educational Planning (ISEP) and Association for Independent Liberal Arts Colleges for Teacher Education (AILACTE). Dr. Riegel serves as an Assistant Editor for the AILACTE Journal and on the review board for the Journal of Research on Technology in Education (JRTE), Educational Planning Journal, and AILACTE Journal.

Dr. Riegel currently serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Educational Planning (ISEP) and is the East Regional Representative on the Board of Directors for the Association for Independent Liberal Arts Colleges for Teacher Education (AILACTE). Dr. Riegel serves as an Assistant Editor for the AILACTE Journal and on the review board for the Journal of Teacher Education (JTE), Journal of Research on Technology in Education (JRTE), Educational Planning Journal, and AILACTE Journal.

Dr. Riegel achieved her Gold Medals in Singles and Skating Skills from the Unites States Figure Skating Association (USFSA). In addition to teaching, she lives out her passion for skating by coaching Niagara University Club Figure Skating and training hockey skating skills in the community, primarily out of Dwyer Arena on NU’s campus.

Focus of Teaching

Dr. Riegel teaches a variety of education courses, including adolescent methods, educational research and statistics, instructional technology, human learning development and motivation, equity diversity and inclusion, etc. In addition to teaching courses in the College of Education, Dr. Riegel also teaches mathematics courses in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Current Research

Dr. Riegel’s research has continued to focus on one main trajectory: quality teacher education. This has allowed her to conduct interdisciplinary research related to various aspects of teacher preparation, with a focus on technology integration, teacher preparation, and pedagogical strategies in the field of education. As outlined in her Curriculum Vita (CV) accessible at the top of this page, Dr. Riegel has authored numerous works that contribute significantly to the field of education and continues to advance technology integration and teacher education practices through internal and external grants.
