Dr. Christopher Wright

Biography

After initially graduating from Cornell University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Christopher Wright spent several years working as a special applications engineer – designing and overseeing production of unique mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems – for an engineer-to-order manufacturing company.

He, then, returned to school, completing his graduate work at the Simon Graduate School of Business (University of Rochester.)  He completed his Ph.D. in operations management August 2010, after already earning an M.B.A. with concentrations in Product and Service Operations Management, and an M.S. in Management Science Methods.

He joined the faculty at NU in 2009, having previously served as an adjunct and visiting professor at the Simon School and the Saunders College of Business (RIT).

In February of 2016, he was elected as Chair of the Management Department, and has served in that role since.

Focus of Teaching

Currently, Dr. Wright primarily teaches the MBA core course on decision modeling and analytics (MGT611), which introduces students to current methods of transforming data into action.  Additionally, he has taught Operations Management, Data Analysis and Managerial Statistics at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Current Research

Dr. Christopher Wright’s primary research focus is on the various applications of revenue management systems, including airlines, hotels and sports franchises. . His dissertation, entitled Modeling and Analysis of Revenue Management Systems in Airline Alliances, established a framework for analyzing the revenue sharing process of airlines within an alliance that sell seats on each other’s networks and then examined various exact and heuristic methods for determining the distribution of revenues. Other interests include lean applications within higher education, supply chain security, extreme event management and applications of operations management to emergency services organizations. His work has appeared in a top tier journal, Transportation Science, and he has presented at several annual conferences of INFORMS, Revenue Management & Pricing, and Manufacturing and Service Operations Management.
