Biography
Dr. Abigail L. Levin joined the philosophy department in 2007. She holds a Ph.D. in philosophy (2007), as well as a J.D (2000), both from the University of Toronto. Dr. Levin’s primary research interests are in political philosophy, animal ethics, feminism, and philosophy of race and gender. She also teaches and conducts research in eastern philosophy and environmental ethics. Her recent work has appeared in Public Affairs Quarterly and Environmental Philosophy. Her book, The Cost of Free Speech – about the treatment of hate speech and pornography in liberal democracies – was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2010.
Current Research
Dr. Abigail L. Levin’s primary research interests are in political philosophy, animal ethics, and feminism. She is currently at work on a book-length project about celebrity animals and the ethical obligations arising from keeping animals in captivity.
