Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics offer courses and programs that provide pre-professional training that prepare students for careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, pharmacology and other health sciences.
Chemistry and its influence are everywhere from the materials in the car you drive, to the vitamins you take in the morning, to the laboratories where chemists are developing life-enhancing and disease controlling products.
A solid preparation in chemistry is essential for professionals in most scientific areas.
All chemistry and biochemistry graduates from Niagara do at least one year (4 credits) of independent research, supervised by a faculty member. These research experiences give students hands-on practice with problems of real-world importance and play an important role in a student’s professional development and preparation for graduate or professional school, or for the workforce.
This strong chemistry background also prepares students for graduate school, or positions in business, industry, pollution control, and ecology.
Our department offers four primary majors to undergraduates.
The Niagara University Science Training and Research (NUSTAR) Fellowship seeks to enable self-motivated, goal-oriented, and academically exceptional students to carry out high-impact and collaborative research with Niagara’s science faculty. Please note that you must still apply for admission to Niagara University.
Personalized, individualized attention in small classes from a supportive community.
Guaranteed hands-on research training with faculty who are experts in their fields.
Access to state-of-the-art equipment.
At the Niagara University BioMedical Research Institute, our mission is clear: to drive advancements in basic and clinical research, with a focus on discovering and applying a groundbreaking general anti-viral therapeutic. We achieve this through the development of an innovative drug delivery system called Cholestosome, aimed at enhancing health and wellness.
In pursuit of our mission, we provide invaluable opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in high-level research and collaborate with esteemed healthcare professionals. By doing so, we not only contribute to the field of biomedical research but also align with Niagara University’s commitment to education and training. Our ultimate goal is to nurture and train the next generation of scientists, empowering them to make significant contributions to the scientific community and beyond. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for healthcare and scientific discovery.
“I began work in Dr. McCourt’s lab my first year studying biochemistry. By learning a variety of techniques in formulation and tissue culture, the team of researchers working under Dr. McCourt helped broaden my skill set and understanding of the field. I brought these skills with me as a medical student where I remained involved in clinical studies, and aim to continue to contribute to the development of healthcare throughout my career as a physician.”
