Biography
Dr. Marlo K. Brown earned her B.A. from SUNY Buffalo in 1996 with a double major in Math and Statistics. She earned two masters degrees–one from SUNY Buffalo in 1998 in Statistics and the second masters from SUNY Binghamton in Mathematical Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. in 2004 from SUNY Binghamton in Mathematical Sciences. Her research interests are in change-point detection. She has developed a statistics minor and enjoys teaching statistics to a wide variety of majors.
She enjoys Bible Quizzing and has coached and officiated at many state, regional and national competitions.
Current Research
Dr. Marlo K. Brown is currently creating algorithms to detect changes in the arrival rates of count data. She is looking at calculating the probability of a change and quickest detection procedures that minimize cost of wrong decision. She has studied both single variable and multiple category data. Dr. Brown has also investigated the cases where the arrival rates before and after the change are both known and unknown. This has multiple applications to industry, education, and medicine. I am currently extending the algorithms to include detection of gradual changes.
Current Involvement
Dr. Marlo K. Brown is currently the chair of the statistics minor. She is the course coordinator for MATH 201: Business Statistics as well as NUSTEP faculty liaison for MAT 102: Elementary Statistics. Dr. Brown serves on the MAA program committee, where she put together the program for the sectional meetings of the MAA. For the University, Dr. Brown serves on the task force for the general education committee. Dr. Brown is an active member at Colonial Heights Free Methodist Church.
